Ferrochrom ist eine Eisenlegierung aus Chrom und Eisen. Es ist ein wichtiger Legierungszusatz für die Stahlherstellung.

Je nach Kohlenstoffgehalt kann Ferrochrom in Ferrochrom mit hohem Kohlenstoffgehalt (10 % C-Gehalt), Ferrochrom mit niedrigem Kohlenstoffgehalt (0,25 % C-Gehalt) und Mikrokohlenstoff-Ferrochrom (0,03 % bis 0,15 % C-Gehalt) unterteilt werden.

Je niedriger der Kohlenstoffgehalt von Ferrochrom ist, desto schwieriger ist es zu schmelzen, desto höher ist der Stromverbrauch und desto höher sind die Kosten. Ferrochrom mit einem Kohlenstoffgehalt von weniger als 2 % eignet sich zum Schmelzen von Edelstahl, säurebeständigem Stahl und anderen kohlenstoffarmen Chromstählen. Ferrochrom mit einem Kohlenstoffgehalt von mehr als 4 % wird üblicherweise zur Herstellung von Kugellagerstahl und Stahl für Autoteile verwendet.
